AFTER THE ALGORITHM

ATA Festival promotes social debate on the topic of artificial "intelligence" through engagement between experts and the general public. From March 20 to 29 2026, international artists and researchers will show their productions at the Kulturhaus Helferei. In workshops and panels, the societal implications of learning machines will be explored with decision-makers from politics, business and administration.

While AI is increasingly permeating our everyday lives and fueling hopes and fears, a broad fact-based social debate beyond expert circles is lacking. This growing "AI divide" between professionals and the general public is exacerbated by technical misunderstandings, mythical ideas, promotional hype and complicating language. We aim to bridge this gap through tangible encounters with AI art, science and society.

We use the playful tools of creativity and research to encourage responsible and reflective use of AI, breaking down societal divisions and inspiring a critical and curious approach. We make expertise accessible and connect it to the hopes and fears of the public, nurturing a meeting zone for stakeholders across society to engage in conversations at eye level.

The festival opens with a lively and entertaining panel show, followed by an exhibition tour. The weekend continues with interactive artworks, participatory workshops, scientific demonstrations and keynote speeches. Visiting researchers and creators will be present to discuss live with the audience. All exhibited works will remain open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with further evening events. Our closing night on Sunday, March 29, will present the results of our workshops and award the jury prize.
